In this digital painting, my goal was to recreate the organic feel of traditional painting while fully exploring the advanced paint simulation tools of Rebelle 8.
The portrait was built using expressive, visible brushstrokes, prioritizing gesture, texture, and pressure variation rather than an overly polished finish. I worked with semi-transparent layers of color, allowing underlying tones to influence the final atmosphere, an approach closely aligned with oil and acrylic painting techniques.
A key differentiator in this process is the intentional use of controlled imperfections: broken edges, layered marks, and the contrast between loose, painterly areas and more refined focal points, especially in the face. This balance adds depth, character, and avoids the artificial look often found in digital work.
The color palette was carefully designed to balance warm skin tones against cool, neutral values in the clothing and background, guiding the viewer’s eye directly to the subject’s expression. The background remains abstract and suggestive, supporting the figure without competing for attention.
The entire painting was created in Rebelle 8, leveraging its realistic paint physics to achieve a result that sits naturally between digital and traditional media, emphasizing artistic gesture, texture, and personal style.
